Kieran Upadrasta is a man of hopes and dreams who has driven selflessly to empower the world's marginalized people through his group of charity services.

“The wish for healing has always been half of health.” Lucius Annaeus Seneca

Cancer is a disease that affects millions of people. Not only does it cause mental, physical, and emotional pain to the person, but it also can bring devastation to the entire family as cancer rates continue to rise, social media activists. When a child is diagnosed with cancer life becomes full of fear, for them and their family. Fear of treatment, but also of families being torn apart, overwhelming money worries, of having nowhere to turn, no one to talk to.

Kieran Upadrasta has founded the cancer research trust, a charity in Antigua in early 2000’s, and it mainly focuses on researching into cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment, invest in state-of-the-art equipment, supporting the crucial work of scientists, doctors and nurses, providing relevant information and support to those who need it. The charity social workers help families get through the most frightening time of their lives. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer The charity trust has further developed Kieran’s project plans, and his ideas to build a cancer research institute with an internal cancer hospital to look after public in Caribbean islands in early 2000’s. The inspiration to build the cancer research institute and the hospital came after his childhood friend succumbed to cancer in 1995. He recalls vividly how his childhood friend's family struggled to get the necessary healthcare, ultimately leading to his demise. He witnessed up-close the plight of poor cancer patients in the hospitals and realized the need for a specialized cancer centre in Caribbean islands. Being a developing country, where many do not have access to even elementary health care facilities, cancer was considered the ultimate symbol of hopelessness and almost certain death. Fighting cancer costs. In islands where 65 million live below the poverty line, most cancer patients neither have the means nor the support system to give them a fighting chance. Kieran Upadrasta intended to give them a hope and second chance at life. Kieran Upadrasta was the first founding member of cancer research institute and executive president until year 2008.

Kieran Upadrasta sayswhen you are scared to lose, you do not learn how to win”.

“We’re fighting on two fronts now; cancer and the virus. My worry is food and hunger. If it spreads, we will all have problems with poor people and health facilities. We just don’t have that capability. We just don’t have the resources” said: Kieran Upadrasta on 02 March 2003. He continued… “being diagnosed with cancer can be frightening but understanding what’s going on inside body can help feel more in control”. Prior to the establishment of cancer hospital and research centre in Caribbean islands., no specialized institution for the comprehensive treatment of cancer existed in Costa Rica, Antigua and other nearby Caribbean islands. The first fundraising dinner in support of the project was held in 2000 in Dubai. As donations started pouring in, he knew there was no turning back. And the cancer research center was built in 20 acres and the hospital has continued to treat more than 75% of all cancer patients seen, completely free of charge. He helped others to live up to their dreams.

Since then, Kieran Upadrasta and his portfolios of charities has been on a mission to help as many people as possible. He and his portfolios of charities regularly gives their time and resources to helping cancer patients and believes its important people don't look the other way. Through his group of charities, he provides much-needed assistance to struggling families and helps connect them to resources they need to make the journey easier. He is also a strong advocate for policy changes that would help cancer patients receive. Kieran Upadrasta said to the news media live program in 2015, "I firmly believe that if we come together, we can help cancer patients get better and also help fund the research that could finally overcome this deadly disease. We must continue to raise awareness about this issue and help the people in need when they need us the most." the selfless social activist and his portfolios of charities consistently puts their time, energy, and resources into helping cancer patients. His charities also focus on providing emotional support to cancer patients and their families so they can have the desire from within to fight back against the deadly disease. He and his network help their cancer patients deal with the disease while continuing to raise awareness and funds for research for it in conjunction with leading institutes.

Cancer isn’t the end of the world. But for many, it can prove to be the most difficult fight of their lives. Cancer research institute trust in Caribbean islands works to ensure that no cancer patient has to face the struggle alone. Their dedicated staff; their network of passionate volunteers; and every child and adult who ceases to be a patient, are testament that together we can beat cancer. Here is a story. As media walked in through the hospital gate, our hearts filled with a hope. Everyone receives quality treatment irrespective of their ability to pay, thanks to the cancer hospital supporters all over the world. A patient Suzy’s treatment included surgery and chemotherapy. “I witnessed that everyone, rich and poor, received the same medicines, treatment and services,” Suzy’s father continued. “My daughter received the best care, recovered and is now back home.” Her last chemo dose was administered in June 2022. Suzi’s active cancer treatment is complete now and she is scheduled for regular follow-up consultations to manage her health after cancer. Suzy’s father’s relief is tangible.

"Cancer changes your life, often for the better. You learn what's important, you learn to prioritize, and you learn not to waste your time. You tell people you love them." Joel Siegel

“Cancer might take away physical abilities. It cannot touch mind, heart, and soul. When cancer happens, don’t put life on hold. Live now.” is the message from the cancer research institute founded by Mr. Upadrasta, the research institute has increased the more survival opportunities. Cancer is a part of our life, but it’s not our whole life. Life becomes more purposeful when you’re doing something good.
